The Ribbon

Bound by Darling Harbour to the north, the new convention centre to the west, and the Darling Quarter precinct to the south, The Ribbon will see the redevelopment of the former IMAX theatre site, and is set to become one of the largest and most significant hotel developments in the country. The completed project will comprise of a 400+ room five star hotel, 150+ serviced apartments, 172 car stacker, IMAX theatre redevelopment, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) office and extensive public domain redevelopment works.

It’s a challenging shape and as a result we’re going to be solving geometry and technical challenges in order to translate the architectural vision into the built form. If that isn’t enough, it’s located on a constrained site between freeways and services in the heart of the city. This is not a project for the faint hearted and that’s why we love it’.

Ridley’s role is to work closely with developer and builder Grocon to deliver documentation and serve as the BIM manager for the project. Ridley’s Digital Enterprise team will deploy a variety of services, constructing the building in virtual form and also prototyping key sections of the building. This approach will help solve the myriad of complex challenges presented by the form, by assisting both the design and building teams to work through the build process and construction methodology, allowing them to resolve issues visually prior to physical construction.
